To guide Therapeutic Parents towards effective and relevant support, especially in relation to minimising the effects of compassion fatigue.

To promote and assist cohesive partnerships between therapeutic Parents and supporting professionals.

Our Mission Statement



The NATP exists to provide support, education and resources for Therapeutic Parents and supporting professionals relating to therapeutic parenting, effective interventions, compassion fatigue and the effects of early life trauma.

To promote better outcomes for children who have suffered early life trauma, by significantly improving the consistency and quality of support available to Therapeutic Parents in the UK, regardless of whether they are Foster Carers, Adopters, Kinship Carers, Special Guardians, Step Parents, or Birth parents.

Liza Barry
Safeguarding Officer, Social Worker and Therapeutic Parent

I am Liza Barry, single parent adopter since 2013 using TP daily. I am also a child protection social worker working with looked after chicken, and children in the community. Specialities include interest in teenage brain development & attachment theory. I also volunteer in the community with refugees and asylum seekers and an interested in the effects of trauma on those groups.

Dr Niki Taylor is currently a Community General Adult Psychiatrist working for a large Mental Health Foundation Trust in the North East of England. Since completing her training years her particular interest has been in transitional psychiatry, particularly in ADHD, Autism spectrum disorder, Attachment disorder and childhood trauma. She has attended many training events about attachment and childhood trauma run by various leading authorities, and is now offering training on the same to staff working in the local mental health services.
Additional work includes regular teaching on the GP, Foundation and Specialist Trainee programmes covering a wide variety of mental health subjects, and she is a curriculum advisor for the local undergraduate medicine course and the postgraduate Physician’s Associate course.
Niki is also the mother of two birth children and an adopted child with a reactive attachment disorder, and a history of trauma.
Gabrielle Hill
NATP Accountant
Gabrielle is the NATP Treasurer, as a qualified ACCA accountant with 19 years accounting experience she is a safe pair of hands for the association finances.
Catherine Lloyd
NATP Volunteer Co-ordinator
Catherine is a volunteer coordinator and helps members to place geographically in the correct listening circles, Catherine has a strong background in administration and works closely with Val to ensure excellent support for our members and volunteers.

Attachment Therapist, registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists.  Attachment Consultant for numerous Fostering Agencies Trainer delivering Therapeutic Parenting training courses to foster carers and social workers throughout the Midlands and North of England. Former child in care (CIC).
